  1. As the leading force in NATO, the US naturally has been much involved regarding military and politics sorrunding it, because of Norways strategic location. Any further 'shaping and controlling' of other fields than military seems a fantasy. Or feel free to to tell about how the US had Norway to create their oil fund, and welfare state, and so on.

  2. Norway was 'beyond well off' way before the Ukraine war and following higher sales of natural gas to the EU. The specific pipeline, blown up or not, in would not been used anyway, along lots of other russian pipelines into Europe. It's not at all a part of the Norwegian mindset to be involved in blowing a pipeline, whoever owns it, absolutely no chance. No one in western Europe, inluding Norway, welcomes the war going on at the edge of Europes. War is nothing put missery. European got other things they much rather would used time and resources at than producing more weapons. This said, fully allowed to make observations and make whatever conclusions) It's a free world (to a degree)

  3. At that point their Pension Fund, or Oil Fund, owning 1.5%-2% of all public companies of the world, will replace a big part of the oil&gas income, which today is 40-50% of the export value. New mining for metals, hydrogen production, battery production, and other new businesses are slowly growing. But there are challenges regarding transition from a economy where oil&gas has played a big role and getting into new fields of business. Norway has a large amout of Thorium too, that seems to develop into replacing Uranium in the future for nuclear power

The borders in North Sea was finally settled in the beginning of 1960's, and oil was discovered a few years later They used the prinsiple of putting the border in the center between the main lands. The British where no longer a big power in the 1960's, they could not just take what they wished around in Northern Europe.

  7. well..pretty correct. Also been lucky with it's geogrphical location, like tuced a bit away in a corner up in the north not coming in 'cross fire' in wars between larger nations. Some action during ww2, a bit conflicts with the swedes on the border, but in generall been saved from from too much trouble during the centuries

Generally, the state spending big money from oil&gas through some decades building up the standard of living has been pushing up prices for everything in a larger degree than any other countries. Also it is relative expencive to run a country that is quite large compared to the number of people. they can sell the electricy much cheaper and still earn money, but then they would take that money back somewhere else to balance the budget

Basically; the majority of people would not handle to get their part of the oil money in their hands. they would go insane and purchase a 1000 barbaque grills and whatever, driving the inflation over the top and beyond. Better that someone who can deal with money invests them, and most of it are supposed to be for future generations, when oill&gas is game over.

  13. Interesting to hear quite a few Norwegian carpenters still present in NYC in the 80's. I'm living in a region of Norway where quite a few people worked as carpenters in NYC, on and off for periods, and many prefered to live in Brooklyn while over there) The standard of living for average workers where higher in the US than Norway up through the 50's and 60's, but around 1970 industry and wages picked up in Norway, and many of those who worked in NYC settled permanetly back home, especially among those who had small children. Some of these carpenters and their wives filled up shipping containers with US furniture, wallpapers, all sort of interior products for use in their new house to be constructed in Norway, often according to US floor plans and design. And naturally many brough their US cars back home, and they are still used now and then by new younger owners. Many of their children where born in the US, now living in Norway for decades but still got their US passport, and some even speaks with an American accent

To make an update, as of June 2024 it has been confirmed that the 'Fens area' in the town of Ulefoss just west of Oslo contains at least 8.8 million tons of rare earth metals, magnets and some other, and lage amounts of Thorium as a bi product, for potential future nuclear power fuel. The area have been known for years, and some minorscale mining have been present in the past, but the last 5-10 years the test drilling have been intensified.

Norway was under the colonial power of Denmark, and even though a handfull of norwegian owned ships where involved in slave trade, the amount of possible profit of this up until they went away from it around 1800, was microscopic in the big picture regarding Norways economy of the days back then.

  20. A Norwegian went as far as Switzerland on ski in 1953, until summer and hot weather suprised him in the south of the country by late April. His record trip came to an end. There is a statue of Oddvar Braa, in the Vigeland Park of Oslo. He is a national hero.
