Sad to the generation, or type, of customer that want a car for decades (me included) Not that sad for newer generation, other types, of customers, that put design and technology as number one, and want to replace their cars within 5-10 years for something modern, no matter what. ' Why should we continue engage in building a transmission that last for 25 years, when our main clinets, the new-car buyers, mainly get rid of their car in 5-10 years? Why should we continue to please 7'th hand owners in 3'rd world countries with over engineered parts, what's in it for us?' That's maybe some of the questions the economists started asking the engineers. That said, I stick to my 1995 124 300 diesel

The German brands are known to have outsourced a lot, for the last 50 years, parts production to a lot of specialized German brands like Bosch, Sachs, ZF, and so on. These are specialist in their fields. The issue is these suppliers have been instructed to lower the price, use cheaper materials. 'why install a windshield whiper motor that last for 15 years, when our customers are to replace the car within 5-6 years?' People who put longivity as number 1, have to option of Toyota, Lexus and such. Other wants cool design, power, many buttons, and care less about longivity.
