The US is not 'Scania-country', as is very well known.

Variable geomtry turbo. They can move the internal blades, to adjust pressure and volum flowing through it. Used to meet the emission specs for a while in the Scania engines. From 2014 the went back to standard fixed turbos, and took care of emissions via more exhaust filters. The V8 fans out there better like to versions with standard turbo, like they mount in this video, for cool sound

Variable geometry turbo. Can adjust pressure and volum. It was used for easier meeting emissions, helping ut EGR. From 2014 Scania removed the vgt turboes and went back to standard fixed ones. Additional exhaust filers tookcare of emissions instead. The 770 V8 do not have EGR either.

the original vgt turbo is complex with many movable parts inside. When tuning the engine as much as they do, they want to play safe and install a standard fixed turbo
3
When they are tuning the engine this much, they do not want the VGT turbo, but aa basi standard turbo that will better deal with it.

No, they are diferent types @Scoobydcs

Probaly can get new parts there. With this older used engine he wanted, and upgrades, one need go to the where the top expertice is located, Sweden and Finland
2
Getting a cooler sound from a fixed standard turbo instead of the variable original one is likely among the main reasons

Yes

You need to email that company.

I would say it's first of all for better efficiency of the engines use of fuel, followed by less and better controlable emissions outlet. Also getting less turbolag, and more torque at lower rpm @Scoobydcs

This older model have an exhaust brake + retarder. The new ones got internal engine brake, exhaust brake and retarder

Will guess Scania and volvo was not being too helpfull supplying parts and technology to a Finnish manufacturer competing direcly with their own trucks in their own backyard...Mercedes likely more relaxed about it since they had a small market share in the Nordics anyway. i'nteresting to hear about Sisu axles in Australia @jone8626

Cooler sound possible with a normal turbo

Same in North America

It di d struck me too, how smal dimeter those manifolds where for such a big engine

there are many US trucks in Europe, but they are mainly hobby and show trucks for the weekends. Too long wheel bases to haul ordinary trailers in Europe, and the drivers comfort a bit less compared to the Euro trucks drivers are normally used to. But US trucks are cool looking, no doubt about that, and European truckers naturally envy the big sleepers

It will bea just for fun truck, driven as good as zero distance a year compared to a ordindary commercial truck. The earth will survive.

The 770 V8 does not got the EGR system. Don't know about the other
