@simonnolloth6103 Scania failed more due to an flawed market launch strategy than the product itself. Now it's different times, and lessons learned
6
Critical comments, which the US manufacturers can pick up and improve on. If no one saying it, no improvement. Some US manufacturers got their stock owners first in mind. Customers and drivers further down.
3
Scania can. No one else can) Demo truck for marketing purposes only.
3
How much do you got? That's about the only limitation
3
One do not need hoods and big sleepers for driving local, inter city, vocational trucks. Transport is not all about OTR
3
It'sa one off show truck for now. Scania's possible plans for the Us is not known, but not impossible they will try sell some trucks in not too far future. It's easier now as they got Navistar as a sister company a couple of years ago and a possible access to their large network of sales and service shops.
2
In case a Longline it should be a S cab, and it's too tall for Bruce to haul on a trailer, as is needed now and then. Scania do not got a Longline ready themselves, so it would be no option for this Scania owned demo truck anyway. They got one in the making. It will be the same size as a basic US sleeper, large enough for most drivers
2
Demo truck owned by the manufacturer, for marketing only, can be allowed road legal, 1 year at the time
2
and they got more and ugly truck accidents over in the US
2
Competition is strong between the differen Euro brands. Delivery time, price, service deals, that is factors important to companies. When companies change between different brands, it do not need to be because of issues with the trucks themselves, but general economical factors, they are gven a better deal by their local Volvo dealer or whatever
2
Forget about comparing drivers comfort of old US cabovers with modern Euro cabovers, it's on a completly different level. In the 'old days' a 'cheap' and simple way to increase drivers comfort was to put the driver further behind the front axle. Billions and billions have been put down developing these trucks. Plenty of horrible roads in Europe too. The cab in the video is for local tips, no problem spend a few nights. There is a 70 inch sleeper in the making.
2
Will be 70 mph in the US, has been mentioned
2
The US market is more concervative than Europe. They often like what is older and well proven to work
2
Automated manaul. Not a true automatic as Allison.
2
They have one in the makeing as of 2024 for this new truck series. Possible launched end of the year.
2
Nowhere
1
Cab in the video in North America would be typically for local transport, vocational use, that's possible the segment of the market where Scania would aim majorly. They got a cab with a 70-75 inch sleeper in the making.
1
He will do tests once in the US. Higher loads and lower speeds in Europe compared to the US, need to compare under the same conditions. Scania is known for the high fuel efficiency of their new trucks. This 770 hp truck will use a bit more than a 500 hp something engine that would be the more suitable for most US transposts. The 770 is mostly use for total weights of 110.000 to 170.000 lbs in Europe
1
It's new and unusual in the Us. There will be love and hate reactions, nothing in between
1
do not think it will work witing for him taking contact. There are many wanting contact and he is very busy. Maybe email, facebook message. Probably need to make a big effort to get in contact, maybe trvel to his place in Tennessee
1
Because Scania does not offer a new Longline??
1
He mentioned somewhere he would come back with a tour schedule
1
Mirrors still works..been around 100 years
1
The truck is owned by Bruce's billionare friend called Scania. They arrange whatever part and service needed, anytime, anywhere.Scania Engine division got 300-400 dealers in North america, and otherwise Navistar/International is their sister company, present all over
1
No need for a larger cab for vocational trucks, inter city trucks, which might be the brands major focus if going for the US market. They got a version with a 70 inch sleeper in the making
1
Except S500 something will be the most optimal for most US uses, best fuel economy. The 770hp is usually used for weights of 110.000 lbs and up, in hilly regions, overkill for smaller weights, but anyway some owner operators in Europe use it for smaller loads, just for fun, andwilling to pay the extra cost)
1
Us trucker would for sure miss to change to kph....
1
Will guess Baltimore
1
Wait.
1
Scania would see US and Canada as one market
1
Why do you ask? Bruce Wilson is easy to recognize. He have no twin brother.
1
As a demo truck, yes. Not allowed for commercial use.
1
When aviable in the US, sure not long after will come around in Canada. Or the opposite, they might will go for Canada first. The Scania SK series, offroad, dump trucks, are aviable via Naviastar in Canada, for off road use, in mines and such, not allowed on the highways for now, from what I understand
1
hight issues when transporting it on a trailer in the US
1
Many fleet owner would see a truck as this Scania as 'too fancy and expencive to give our drivers', but maybe change their minds if they see the total cost of owning it over several years might be lower
1
He choose among what SCania has to offer, and what he can transport on a lowloader in the US, get under the bridges.
1
Not quite legal as shown in the video The factory will work on some details the next weeks, and send documentation to the US before shipping. Bruce might also work on some details once in the US, to get it fully legal.
1
At Bruce's headquaters in Tennessee
1
Truckers around the world lives in these cabs 1-2-3 weeks at the time, no big deal., big enough. In the US this cab would be for local transport, vocational use. They got one with a 70-75 inh sleeper in the making
1
It's a Scania 100%, created by Scania in Sweden. Who now owns the stocks of the company got nothing to do with the trucks themselves.
1
@helmutkoohl8652 How childlish to think these different brands VW group got ownership in, and have the brands use some common parts, will make these complete products 'VW' ) But of course you are free to dream and think about this way.
1
@BloPsyy Shipped directly into the US, according to Bruce, a harbour around New York somewhere
1
@BloPsyy Alright, it might go on a ship heading to Mexico first, then on the same, or other ship, to the US. I will think that to drive this truck cross the southern border is out of the question. Possible needs to be imported via a US harbour that usually deals with new foregin vehicles and machinerey entering the country. Bruce mentioned Boston Harbour. But anywaythe truck will get to US one way or the other it seems
1
Big advanage of these cabovers are around the city, inter-city, vocational trucks. Compact, high drivers comfort, the power, good fuel efficiency.Their looks can't beat the look of a classic US convential truck, but in some cases it's alright to put looks further down the list.
1
They will do some US adjustments to it at the factory the coming weeks, then documentation sent to US officials. there is some paperwork left. The shipment itself is probably around 2 weeks to Boston Harbour, or there around
1
Love + hate
1
Trailers aredifferent around the world, different rules. One need to use the local standard, or one just end up being allowed to have less load
1
Will say 10-15% +/- heavier than comparable US trucks, these are made for larger loads. If they go for the US market, lighter versions likely will be aviable
1
Service via Scania Engine division dealerships, and/or Navistar, I will guess.
1
Scania are known for top of the line fuel economy. Bruce will for sure do tests once in the US. This is a 770 hp, typially used or total weight of 110.000 - 170.000 lbs, it will use a bit more than a 500 hp +/- version that will be a more natural choice in the US, but will still give an indication
1
Love the sarcasm) Yeah, he is kind of tired of the same old stuff that he has spend thousands of hours with through the years, now find it more exiting with something new
1
@Zoomzoom120 The channel is about heavy trucks, as it has always been. And a farm tractor now and the in earlier days. Don't see your point. Nothing has changed.
1
This one would be for local transport, vocational use. But no poblem spend a few nights. They got a cab with 70 inch sleeper in the making
1
Us truck market is very conservative, they like the old ways, and to keep it simple. A high tech truck like a Scania will be interesting to a part of the US market, but other parts of the market will be negative to the hightech
1
He will transport it on a trailer now and then. Higher cabs are too high
1
It's pretty cool. Volvo Europe was first to launch this system in 2015, 'volvo tandem lift'. It's said to save 3-4% fuel while driving with it lifted, unloaded, in addition saving on the tires
1
They got a cab with a 70 inch sleeperin the making. They will possible mostly focus at vocational trucks, inter-city trucks
1
Woud not make much of a difference as the Scanias will be most interesting for local transport, dump trucks, concrete mixers and so on. Americans want much larger sleepers for long distance transport.
1
Americans are not so into airbrushing as Europeans, they like more clean look, stripes,
1
They have in the making a long cab for this new model series, a sleeper about 70-75 inch. Probably launced end of the year. Until now there have been a similar sleeper cab custom made by 3'rd party companies, put will hopeully be an original option soon
1
'Looks like'... yeah, many US truckers likes the retro look, that's why, but under the hood and on the inside have naturally been updated many times)
1
@catd11ng74 More stuff and electronics, means more that can break, and not much on can repair oneself, which in practical means newer high tech vehicles will be scraped aftger a few years, vs the simpler vehicles will live on. Betterf or the enviromental.
1
sooner or later all vehiles will fail, what is important is to do good maintenance
1
Are you an American?
