Lithuania is one of the most 'westernized' of the ex-USSR countries, been looking to western Europe/USA for many years already. They don't like anything about Russia, ex USSR. To get a 'feel for' the old days, one better visit Belarus, Ukraine, rural Russia

they try to stay calm at home, as much as possible, keeping the lights off most of the day/night. Maybe if they are quiet, Islam won't find them. Has worked so far.

He has learned it as he have had a special interest in Eastern Europe for years, and have a Belarus ex-wife. As he explains in another video, learned many frases and words by heart, without wasting time on grammar.

That's a thing I've noticed on some travels to ex USSR; in many cases they manage to create new buildings that looks decades old) But there are also modern cool architecture

I guess he find the smaller towns of rural 'ex USSR' the most interesting, as changes happens slower there and one can see more remains of the older stuff he like to explore. Naturally many younger people leave these rural areas and move to more modern urban areas

Those people over there do not wast a single 1 Watt, ever.

Belarus was a member of the Sovjet Union, and many of the sovjet 'constructions' still remain there and are maintained (poor region, not much capital to modernize), as in many ex-sovjet 'rural' areas far away from Moscow.

Salaries also 'affordable' ;) guess most people get by somehow, food, a bed, some clothes. But no holidays abroad and so on is the norm too many people

Less of everything, incl jobs, capital ++ . People mostly adjust and adapt to living in the places the were born and grew up, and somehow survive
