@GAMER123GAMING the war was fought because most of the country was frustrated over segregation laws. Smith wasn't fighting it to protect Rhodesia but to maintain segregation.

How can you blame black people for striking out against being humiliated in their homeland? And whites aren't blamed for the present state of Zimbabwe.

@johnm84 you are misinformed. Rhodesia was a poor country with a population that was mostly poor. Zimbabwe is one of the more developed countries in Africa. Life in Zimbabwe did not change for most.

@thespatulaa they fought for pay. The amount of Africans that fought for Rhodesia was minuscule as evidenced by constant manpower shortages.

@thespatulaa that's because whites were only 5 percent of the population. If 100 percent of whites fought but only 6 percent of blacks fought, the blacks would have still outnumbered the whites. That still shows the majority of Africans were against Rhodesia. And the fact that Rhodesia constantly faced manpower shortages showed not even that many Africans supported Rhodesia.

@thespatulaa oh boy. Rhodesia capitulated because they were going to war with few men and supplies. The six month extension to the twelve month service system was starting to demoralize the public. Those vaunted kill ratios reflect how few Rhodies were. Under Rhodesian leadership if blacks felt bipartisan sentiments towards Rhodesia. The Rhodesians would have crushed their less competent enemy. However most Africans did not support Rhodesia. And patent rubbish. Most of the guerrillas were Shona and Matabele.

And Rhodesia wasn't about education it was about white rule. 50 out of 66 seats in its parliament were reserved for whites. Not the educated but whites. The country was also segregated and half of it reserved for 5 percent of the population. I'd take my own anytime.

@tcdrx you're incorrect, and if you'd like I will bring you citations. The West refused to supply ZIPRA with any arms and so they turned to the PRC and USSR. Mugabe did not establish a socialist state at any time nor did he denounce Capitalism. Indeed, private property was guaranteed under his reign and is yet respected by his successor. Rhodesia explicitly reserved 50 out of 66 seats for whites. Not the wealthy, not the educated, whites. Furthermore in 1930 blacks were relocated by force to create white only areas. If you're being sincere, you're wrong about Rhodesia.

@tcdrx Zimbabwe is doing better than it was in 1980. In 2000, most remained subsistence farmers as they were in 1980 and earlier. Zimbabwe is certainly not the Netherlands but it's better than Rhodesia human rights wise, and in standard of living.
