Derailments are more commonplace than most people think. When they happen they can be catastrophic as this one was. Granted people died in derailments during Trump administration. But that's like asking for a federal investigation for every auto accident. Biden and his administration, including the useless transportation secretary boasted about increasing rail service, did nothing about their war with trucking industry that only exasperated supply chain issues. Then through them under the bus when it came to negotiations on union contracts. The cognitively impaired puppet president had time to fly down to Florida when a building collapsed and offer aid. Yet can't send anyone when an entire community or more is in peril. DOT, OSHA, EPA on both state and federal levels should have been there immediately at a minimum. Rules on hazmat are quite specific in most cases. All those placards you see have a meaning. They're there to notify first responders or anyone within eyesight to what containers hold and potential dangers. I believe the rail system has a definite function. But over regulations or siding with owners is not good. Something called common sense comes to mind. Which this administration seems to be lacking in every department. Accidents happen. Their ability to deal with them is non existent. Whether it be intentional or just incompetence, it grounds for removal for those in charge. Oh and by the way, Don't get flustered over the term hazmat, I'm old school, like everything else democrats don't like, they redefine in order to bypass due process and the law. Which they did in the Obama Biden administration and continues on today.
