A lot of issues here. By extending this. Especially if people are refusing work. You are only putting them in debt farther. Just because they can't get evicted doesn't mean they don't owe rent. It also puts a heavy strain on landlords. They don't get a moratorium on their mortgages, property taxes, maintenance and utility bills. I've seen a lot of people abuse this Moratorium. People on fixed incomes that were not affected at all financially. Yet chose simply not to pay rent. Or others whose incomes increased and refused to pay. Even though illegal to do so. With courts not hearing those cases. Takes months to evict. And odds of recouping lost rent are slim to none. Federal money has been available for months, some for back rent and some upcoming assistance. But it's not up to landlords to be the welfare bank. They have families as well. Rather than just extending this. And putting the burden all on the landlord . There should be some sort of provisions in there. That make tenants show proof they're making efforts to get available funding for back rent and ability to pay future rent. With a short time limit for confirmation. This cannot go on forever. I don't like seeing anyone evicted. But as a tenant, they do bear responsibility in making sure the rent gets paid. Whether it be working and paying it. Or filling out the necessary paperwork so the landlord can get paid through the money that was supposed to be for just that. To just extend it doesn't help anyone in the long run. Again, just piling on more debt that renters will owe. And undue burdens on landlords. That could force them into foreclosure or bankruptcy.
