It's irresponsible people importing and now breeding them. Then not being responsible for them.

Never underestimate nature's ability to adapt, oppossums were unheard of in Maine 40 years ago. Same was said too cold. They're here,now. Also don't forget the human factor. Human structures and infrastructure often provide very suitable places for a wide variety of species to winter over or find shelter when needed. Even snakes like water moccasins and eastern diamondbacks extend farther north than most people realize. Although I think you may be correct in short to mid time projections. Long run I have no doubt they could adapt to go that far north. If they needed to. Great Video

@timjohnson1199 absolutely. I only lived in Florida for a few years. Native Floridians are wonderful people.. hardworking brutal and kind people. I'm from Maine. But smart enough to live as a Floridian when in Florida. You seldom see a true Floridian being a jerk in Maine. In fact it's seldom you find a true Floridian or Mainer. Think about it. We were the backbone of this country. Now a playground? Desantis is on the right path. Democrats have.shoe shopped too long.

Really good information. But as we already know, climate changes for 4.5 billion years. Species can mutate/adapt faster and more

@peterlewis7228 humans are relatively new to the planet according to scientists and archeologicalists. So what's your point? We're here. Don't see you putting a gun to your head to fix the problem. And please don't! Point is we can help. Have faith and think a little. Answers aren't always dumped in your lap. Good things take time, didn't pop up out if nowhere. God bless. Again a little faith and effort.

@Manbunmen65 Apparently leftwing do.

@Manbunmen65 ? Just plain irrelevant. Yes and yes it matters. If your so ignorant not to be aware of your surroundings, that's just plain moronic. Do us all a favor. Stop writing books and go play in the street. Hopefully an interstate highway. How dumb can you be? How isolated can you be?

@timjohnson1199 agreed! So what is your poin)?

@chrispewitt1411 I think the way bounty works is they must be brought in alive to prevent fraud (Not road kill or same snake twice) But as others have said, you can certainly shoot one in back of head and kill it. The bounty program benefits more. It's cheaper for state and taxpayers. It guards against use of poisons, plus it's a cooperative where public can earn a few bucks and state biologists get a ton of data for a fraction of the cost. It may not be perfect, but certainly a step in the right direction. Plus if you're going to use meat or skin. Fresher the better, especially in Florida heat. Florida, Maine and other states that have embraced the policies of sportsmen and women, professionals working together with Fish and Wildlife and biologists, separating themselves from politicians works well.

@alexcrowder1673 seriously? Yes that may have occurred. But to say that importers, breeders, and those that demand the supply of non native invasive species aren't responsible. Thats like saying people who buy ivory aren't responsible for poaching of elephants or rhinos. Or why South America has now got a population of hippos. Or a drug dealer saying he or she doesn't have a role in overdoses. The state did not import these snakes, nor did they sell them to irresponsible people who let them lose in the wild when they get tired of them or too big to handle. No different than feral cats or dogs. If there was no demand there would be no need for imports or breeders. Plus the high risk of genetically polluting the pool. This isn't new, it happens both in flora and fauna. And has quite a well documented history.

@lloydmckay3241 don't doubt it. Your south of me in south in Maine But i assume have lake effect as well. Snow is good. No snow an subzero not so good for oppossums. But they're still kicking. How long they been there. Because last report was that was supposed to be the later invasion because of water and stuff. Other DUMB question is you have venomous snakes?
1
DUMB question was supposed to be DO YOU HAVE VENOMOUS SNAKES? nothing diragatortry. Just interested from a personal view. Two largest land masses on earth in the northern hemisphere. They say yours is getting flooded. Others exploding.
1
DUMB response. Venomous, poisonous. Toads are poisonous. Some snakes are top. Rather invite a rattler than you.
1
@HkFinn83 your absolutely correct. Your critter adapted to a life of ease. It works both ways. Think about it.
