This happening with cars as well. When California and feds made auto manufacturers warranty certain parts for a 100,000 miles. The trade off was the diagnostic info related to those became proprietary property. So even a well equipped, ASE CERTIFIED shop with a $12,000.00 scan tool comes up blank. With a note that vehicle needs to go to the dealer. Even to retrieve a code. We've always had to pay for repair information, either in manual form or through electronic services such as ALL DATA.( And it's not cheap) But at least the information was available. Just another way to put the screws to the small entrepreneur. Good luck in your endeavor but I'm not going to hold my breath.

@benjamininkorea7016 I thought I heard about a case just on those premises, quite some time ago. Never did hear results. But I feel the same way. You pay for it. It is yours. Never owned I phone. But never signed any lease agreement for any other phone I've purchased.

When the left tax, fine people out of business. Force people to either move or become government employees or wards of the government. All part of the socialist plan.

Answer. We are not giving up our monopoly. We make too much money on it. So what's this gonna cost us. To make this go away? It's pretty flipping simple. When you purchase these items. You bought them. Didn't lease them, nor sign any agreement saying the unit remains the property of the manufacturer. Or restricts your right to repair it. And if your going to pull this crap. Then you can put a 5yr 100% warranty on them. At no cost to customers. Similar to emission components on cars.

As businesses suffer and revenue for some decrease. They make adjustments. Cut overhead and expenses. Take a pay cut. But not government. They continue to expand every year. Even though their revenue sources have decreased. They just increase demand on who's left. It's a self destructive cycle. That has destroyed almost every democrat run major city in the nation. Detroit,Chicago, LA, SEATTLE, Portland. NYC. etc. Etc. Government is a necessary evil, and expense. Should be treated as such. Keeping it to a minimum. And have it run efficiently with quality, necessary service. Not an ever-growing parasite that offers only a painful death to its host.

I don't care either. A broken clock scenario. What's right is right. Automotive industry has been plagued by this for decades. With the assistance of California legislation. My opinion the leaders of corruption in the guise of good. They've consistently protected manufacturers well beyond U.S. patent and copyright, laws. For kickbacks. These restrictions did little or no good in true efficiency in automobile industry. 1970s. Carburetored cars approaching 50mpg. Now you have a tuna fish can toughting it gets 30+mpg. Provided you don't overload it, with a big bag of dog food. This doesn't even enter the fact. I purchased a product. I did not lease it. I did not sign a service contract. I bought it. I own it. I can tear it down and be befuddled. But changing a battery? Really? Or inventing a Rube Goldberg machine to not enhance efficiency. But to increase profits. I agree. When it's right it's right. Expect a fierce fight. And Joe is probably on his way out. Don't think he'll make it till the end of his term, due to obvious medical concerns. That were well evident before he took office.

All these lobbyists don't want to talk in public. But you with a smug attitude that people are too dumb to change a battery, screen, or charging port in a cell phone. Or other basic services on other devices. Not to mention the fact. That if someone wants to reverse engineer, or do something illegal. They are going to do it. Have been doing it. Look at the Asian markets. Been going on for decades. Be like having to send your sneakers back to Nike to replace the laces. Because the technology used in making them is complicated.
