I'll tell ya what, as a NYS LMSW (currently working on my clinical) and L-CASAC, I've rechanneled my focus from the Drug & Alcohol field to internet addiction. The DSM-5s newest additions mostly pertain to this relitivly new societal phenominon. Both the Japanese and Chinese government's have already begun funding clinical inpatient and outpatient treatment centers for adolescents suffering from disorders directly affiliated w internet addiction (e.g., depression- and anxiety-related symptoms being found most commonly). And make no mistake, soon, the West will be plagued by this catastrophe. Suicide, MAT programs and anti-internet movements (i.e., a Luddite-oriented opposition) are coming. This is going to become so much worse than most people are anticipating. Our youth are in big trouble! And that's not a speculative statement shrouded in reckless assumption. The research is rather conclusive and if policies and regulations are not implimented at schools and in the home, it's going to get ugly: we're on the precipice of a nasty epidemic.

@TheJDeuce Yeah, it sucks, because there's a lot of good that comes from the internet as well. It would be interesting to conduct a longitudinal study on inmates who are carrying out long sentences in the prison industrial complex (they have zero access to the internet) and use a comparative sample of free citizens, who regularly use social media networks. It would be a great cross sectional study. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches would garner some really useful data. I'd bet mood disorders would be more prevalennt among the free citizens haha. That's some ironic shit, but I bet the data would suggest that.
