Here is an Akido story. But first off, Akido is a slightly more aggressive version of Tai Chi and gymkata haha. When I lived in NYC a million yrs ago, I was around 21 and had wrestled all through school and the first UFC cards inspired me to learn BJJ. But the were no BJJ gyms anywhere! Howevwr, a friend told me that there was an MMA gym in long island where a few BJJ coaches taught and put on seminars. So i started driving to this MMA gym in Long Island where Phil Baroni trained. I was getting my feet wet in BJJ and MMA. Nothing too serious, just getting exposed -- by no means was I an MMA or BJJ practitioner, not even amateur level at that point. There was an Akido guy that came to the gym w Phil all the time. He was a Mr Miagi type haha. He looked impressive doing his akido shit and apparently Phil worshiped the dude. One day, some guy called out the old guy and said that Akido was bullshit. Long story short, this 24 yr old D1 wrestler beat the shit out of the 60 yr old Akido guy after they arranged a smoker between the two -' a few other fights that day too. Phil ended up sucker punching the wrestler afterwards and flatlined the dude. It was the worst sucker punch ever. A scumbag move. The gym closed 3 days later lol. That's all I got. Wish I remembered more about the situation. I believe it was Phil's gym and he hadn't even faught an MMA fight at that point yet, but he was undoubtedly the top dog there. His stand up was frightening.
