Americans tend to have a real distaste for Trump and his violent, anti-American extremist movement, Mateo. It's completely reasonable.
12
Why? He's presented an accurate assessment of everything related to Trump since 2016.
11
That's a completely idiotic conclusion to draw. The 14th Amendment doesn't hinge on criminal indictment or conviction. The state and federal charges are apolitical other than they're abuses of power made possible by holding political office.
10
The ballot is under the responsibility of the Secretary of State for each individual state. Their decision will be challenged and it will eventually be elevated to the Supreme Court where the constitutionality of the decision will be determined. It's not terribly complex.
7
Constitutional theory is evidenced and based in a literal reading of the 14th Amendment. It's unprecedented but logical. What we never anticipated was a former President behaving with such contempt for our country and system of government. Turley couldn't be more turned around if he tried.
6
Trump attempting to do ballet would be hilarious, Dani! The man has all the grace of a water buffalo!
5
Please stop advocating domestic terrorism, Michael. Even joking, your comment is patently Unamerican.
4
Being an echo chamber is the FOX News business model.
3
Does Trump strike you as a strategic thinker, Mandy?
3
The FBI is law enforcement, they don't make that determination. Those convicted of seditious conspiracy might not see your semantic argument as relevant.
3
That's not even remotely true, Tim.
3
Did Biden provide aid and comfort to our enemies? Has he told the terrorists who attacked our Capitol that he loves them and is going to seriously look into pardons for them?
2
He was elected. It's the same way anyone gets to hold public office.
2
Ineligibility to run for office isn't a criminal conviction.
1
Being ineligible to run for public office isn't a legal consequence. Running for office is not a right.
1
@gastronomist no. I don't have more time to try to explain civics to you and you have no desire to engage with reality.
1
@gastronomist you won the internet with your iron clad argument. Nice job!
1
@sallyannedeegan3960 it seems really unlikely that MAGA will turn to Jesus, Sally. Jesus is about loving our neighbors, turning the other cheek and forgiving our trespasses. Trump claims to want to represent "retribution" for perceived slights. Jesus Christ and Donald Trump are polar opposites.
1
@jonasbarbury4013 a violent attack on our Capitol provoked by a lost election meant the first time in our history without the peaceful transfer of power. The amount of violence committed by far-right extremists is still on the rise. Reality won't allow us to view MAGA as anything other than anti-Americanism run amok.
1
@demonkingbadger6689 the chosen name for this cult of personality is definitely too stupid to argue. We agree!
1
You hypothetical requires people to pretend the most corrupt and incompetent President in American history is the victim of political persecution. You'd have to be a complete boebert to believe that nonsense!
1
That's right, the entire GOP is explicitly pushing anti-American extremism.
1
@PulledPorkGarageno, you don't. Instead of trusting talking heads, you might want to read the legal argument of ineligibility. You can find it printed in the Atlantic and it's entitled, "The Constitution Prohibits Trump From Ever Being President Again".
1
@paulbentley1705 reducing the most corrupt and incompetent President in American history to a personality conflict makes you seem foolish, Paul.
1
@downandout992 cool try, bro!
1
Quick! Take all the evidence you assembled to Trump's defense team before his DC trial!!
1
Trump's Derangement Syndrome is contagious and his followers are all facing legal consequences for criminality.
1
It's hardly new and not entirely unprecedented. Look at the Confederates barred from office after the Civil War.
1
Like all MAGA Republicans, Trump is a coward. No one is afraid of him but criminality necessitates accountability.
1
@timtalaski5904 there's a civil suit in NY that will determine Trump's actual wealth. SPOILER ALERT: Trump is not a billionaire.
1
Trump is a serial loser. Democrats want him on the ballot because he's the weakest candidate and the easiest to beat.
1
@jeffreygunn3530 state officials have all the authority to run the elections in their states. Whichever decision they make as to ballots will be challenged legally. We'll have to see what shakes out when it occurs.
1
@pefo1674 the SCOTUS isn't running the election, they'll determine the constitutionality of the decisions by states if legal challenges occur.
1
@BobJ2828 maybe you should take your wrongheaded constitutional theories to Trump. You can join his legal team if you agree to work for free.
1
@patriciaa6308 convictions on seditious conspiracy have already been handed out. "Insurrection" or "rebellion against" is the language. The J6 attack was a violent rebellion even if you fail to acknowledge it as an insurrection. Giving aid or comfort to our enemies prevents someone from seeking public office and no one can argue that Americans convicted on seditious attacks are not our enemies. More than comfort, Trump has floated the idea he would pardon these terrorists if given the opportunity. He cannot appeal the decision because running for public office is not a right and ineligibility can happen for any number of reasons.
1
Because they see themselves as Banana Republicans...?
1
@gerrycaterisano3460 no true Scotsman supports Trump.
1
Trump is as physically weak as he is politically. No one is afraid of him.
1
In what way?
1
The FBI is law enforcement, they don't make that determination. Those convicted of seditious conspiracy might not see your semantic argument as relevant.
1
@mikemyers7539 he was censured because the Speaker of the House promised to in exchange for votes. I have a job and have never had food stamps. My taxes make your government assistance possible.
1
@mikemyers7539 compelling argument, Mike.
1
@timtalaski5904 my credibility is not in question nor is Congressman Schiff's.
1
@mikemyers7539 can you recall another time where fifteen votes were needed for a Speaker? Surely you didn't believe nothing changed for fourteen votes and political wrangling didn't occur to get the gavel.
1
@mikemyers7539 all Republicans are weak. It wasn't always this way.
1
@joemoore7447 it's not terribly smart to lock in on a sentence that you think exonerates Trump and hope all the other words and actions leading up the the attack and the attack, itself, didn't happen. Trump's followers marched in protest peacefully and then they fought like hell to invade our Capitol.
1
@Ridingrules10000 hundreds of Trump's followers invaded the Capitol and attacked police officers. 140+ officers sustained injuries requiring medical care, one officer died from his injuries and several officers killed themselves as a result of the trauma they suffered. Minimizing domestic terrorism is disgusting. I'm sorry your preferred candidate lost his reelection bid. I'm sorry you feel out of step with America. It's time to be a grown-up and stop whining about perceived slights.
