  2. Because a global economy works in exchange globally. The debt is money we've already spent. Defaulting on the deficit, as the world's largest economy, will create massive global recession. If you think inflation is bad now, imagine a job-killing recession. Fiscal responsibility in the future is a must but the debt ceiling still has to be raised. Slashing the military budget while raising taxes is the fastest way to do that but no one will agree to either.
