  1. There is a tenant who lives in my apartment building who decided one night during a festival typically held in our city that he was going to work security since only one guard was on duty and our building management typically hires 2 for a night shift(this festival does, on occasion, warrant such security). Noting that this tenant was in the wrong humour to work security(I had previous experience in this field) I told him to go to bed and let management worry about it. I must point out that this tenant was also a teacher and had ZERO experience dealing with those on drugs, inebriated or with mental health issues. I repeated my request. He said he would be fine. The next morning I was up early to go on a fishing trip and noticed a large pool of blood in the parking lot of my apartment. As it turned out the teacher had his face rearranged by several people during the night by not adhering to the most important rule that those who have worked in the security field know: Never allow your emotions to overrun the logic centers of your brain. According to another tenant the teacher took umbrage with a young and highly inebriated woman trying to relieve herself in the parking lot. He started screaming at her. He spat in her face after she spat on him and then he decided to use his heavy flashlight as a club and hit her in the forehead with it. By the time it was over this learned individual had his face broken in several places, including his jaw and one of his maxillas by 5 individuals, including the young woman's boyfriend. His first words upon seeing me a week later was: I should have followed your advice. His level of hubris was always rather high, being a teacher. I'm educated as well but given that I've had experience in the field of security as well as other public oriented jobs, my level of understanding of when and when not to become involved in a specific situation helped me more than once in preserving my well being. Being a teacher, used to having people smaller than him obey his commands, his rude awakening to the REAL world aspects of having that turn on him was a lesson rather roughly learned.
