One understands that this bill is completely toothless, although Doc Peterson's fears are not completely unfounded. Most "hate" laws are created to do one thing;shut people up and not the person doing the "hating" but rather those that are complaining. A person charged with a hate crime receives no more punishment than those who haven't been. One doesn't receive any extra 5 years because a crime was committed using "hate" as its primary basis. One recognizes that most if not all crime is spurred by the abstraction known as "hate"; hatred of a system, hatred of self, hatred of another etc. This bill is yet another "washing my hands" piece of legislation. One will see how many are dragged before the Human Rights Tribunal because they used an improper pronoun.
