In Toronto, the city council decided to rename Dundas Square after allegations that the Scottish politician it was named for, Henry Dundas, didn’t advocate for the abolishment of slavery FAST enough. So they decided to give it a new name: Sankofa Square. Sankofa is a word from the Akan peoples of Ghana. The Akan were SLAVE traders and owners. That’s Toronto.
