Here's something else the big chains rely on. Consumers not noticing that sales have ended or replacing sales items with non-sales items. Walk into a local Big L store and see how many of the $5.99 jars of pickles have been pushed into the on sale $3.99 jar of pickles section. The customer doesn't check, leaves the store and gets home to discover they were charged $5.99 when they thought it was $3.99. Bait and switch. They once had glasses on for $1.99 EACH on display but kept the glasses in a 6 PACK container. I told them I was paying $1.99 for all 6. The store refused but corporate offices of LBS didn't. When I went back to the store the glasses were no longer in 6 packs and CLEARLY defined as $1.99 each. The corporate stores are every bit as corrupt and criminal as the five fingered discounters are. Believe me. I worked for a major chain in the late 80's. Thieves.
