  4. I've worked with brain injury, disabled and addiction. They have psychiatrists because your brain gets filled up with client knowledge and the burden becomes huge. I worked at a 24 hour house with 1 alcoholic/amnesiac from head trauma, 1 half paralyzed stroke victim and 1 guy who had deformed legs from a car accident. After about 7 days of running this house (sometimes night, sometimes day) I already wanted to talk to a psychiatrist or even a counselor because they were starting to get to me. I found out the company i worked for was cheap and had no mental workers to support the main front line workers. I quit because I noticed I was starting to slip and I needed someone to talk to weekly. I didn't have that option nor did I think the job was good enough to stick around at. Bottom line is: Working with crazies will rub off on you. You need vacation for clarity and counseling to keep your mind in the right place because the job is tough - the people aren't normal.
