  12.  @njsfer  Allow me to clarify: The Chinese can produce a huge rice crop in a growing season. Then, a second crop can be planted and the yield is less but still substantial. The rice is so affordable that the local population can consume it on a tiny budget in regards to other foods. Not saying it's better but there's a surplus. That being said, the domestic population of China has a predominantly carb diet. Are they experiencing massive, carb-related health diseases? No. And, probably due in part to a lower-calorie intake based on diet. It could very well be the same in other rice producing countries. I know that China has alot because they can get 2 crops a year because of a unique geo-climate valley where most of the rice-growing occurs.
