So that ammo consistently hang fires for just half a second, haha. That is very interesting. Anyway, I have seen a ton of Martini Henry rifles, but I have not seen many of these carbines. Looks like a handy little rifle. If I had one though, I would make an insert to convert it to another round. That ammo is expensive, and it looks like the recoil is something impressive.

camerl2009 I checked measurements last night. I could make a rifled insert for lower calibers, but shooting a ,22 is just not the same. I might as well just get a cheap .22 at that point. Well I do not have any of the Martinis and defiantly not the carbine, so I do not have to worry about it...for now.

camerl2009 You can get around that issue by offsetting the insert so the rim is hit. Looking at the measurements though, I would not have enough room to work with. Shotguns are easy to build inserts for because there is so much room, to work with. This rifle just does not have the room in the chamber or barrel for me to make a good insert. If I would just to go with a chamber insert I would have to use the rifle's rifling...a bit wordy, haha. That means the bullet diameter has to be at least close. .460 downloaded would work, but there is not enough space to build the insert around it. .454 and .45 are a bit under sized. They would shoot, but I am not sure how much gas would get around the projectile, and I am not sure the rifling would give it enough bite. Nope, idea will not work. Too bad. Guess if I ever do get one of these, it will just be for display and a very rare shooting.
