There are already 62 Arleigh Burke class in service. They can carry between 90 and 96 missiles, depending on the Flight variant. The Navy's goal is to have at least 70 always in service with 10 in refit, building replacements plus some additional ships as the earliest ships reach about 30 years old and retirement. Even if we only allow 90 missiles and assume only 50 Burkes would actually be available for combat, that's still 4,500 missiles. As you say, having 10 in a battle fleet is at least 900 missiles. The Burkes are also able to defend themselves pretty well against submarines, and they do have an effective gun for surface action or shore bombardment. It's difficult to see how any battle is going to need more than those 900 missiles, and the USN can just keep adding Burkes until the job is done.

I suppose Nagato vs Hood also depends on time of day as WWII approaches. As shown in the early 1942 period, the Japanese superiority at night fighting would confer an even greater advantage.

You can find out all about the Mark 14 problems plus a lot of other data about other ordinance from the ebook "U. S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance in World War II" by Buford Rowlands. It's available at https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc1.$b671188;view=1up;seq=10. It's 529 pages and will keep you occupied for quite awhile.

@verticallogic5909 Really? You got a link for that?
1
@verticallogic5909 I have. Give me a link to where the British taught the Japanese night fighting. You can't just make a claim like that with no evidence.

@verticallogic5909 Ah, okay, just a troll then. I've been studying naval history since I was about 12. I'm now 73, so don't try to impress me with your claims. "What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence".
1
@verticallogic5909 I made no claims. You did, and you can't back it up. Since you are unable to prove your claim, my assumption is you were just exercising your keyboard.

@verticallogic5909 Tell you what, dipwad. Why don't you you look up the Japanese Red Books and see if you can find a mention of Britain there.
1
@verticallogic5909 Let me know when you find some references to Britain teaching the Japanese night fighting.
