  1. So what happened to the French fleet? It certainly wasn't the RN in terms of ability or power, but the French fleet wasn't inconsiderable. She couldn't have contributed much in the way of capital ships but, even assuming that half the fleet was deployed to the Mediterranean, a large number of destroyers and particularly submarines would have been available.

  2. I wonder, if the climactic battle really came about, would the French had any role to play? Maybe just mopping up at the edges, if nothing else. It seems from the ships that were assigned to the Channel (http://www.naval-history.net/xGW-FrenchNavy1914-1918.htm) in November 1918 that there were enough destoryers and submarines to have been useful if the British had decided to use them. Since they didn't, I assume there was a good reason, but I'm not conversant enough with the situation to know why.
