  1. My understanding is the STAAG mounts on the Battles were temperamental and not very reliable. The USN was never a fan of on-mount directors due to the same problems experienced with the STAAG and the Hazemeyer. The biggest advantage of a Battle class ship compared to a Gearing was the Battle wasn't pushing the weight limit of the ship that same way we saw on the Gearing . The main disadvantage was the concentration of main battery armament forward so stern firing wasn't possible.
