  1. It was the innovation of the combat information center right down to destroyer class ships that made more difference than just the ability of any individual radar in the USN. The ability to combine radar inputs to gunnery fire control systems and fighter control systems into single outputs took away a lot of the confusion of using just radar. The USN was forced into something like a CIC due to the proliferation of different radars (surface search, air search, ranging, height finders, aircraft direction, and fire control) inputs overwhelming the commanders to the point decision making was being made worse.

  2.  @PaulfromChicago  But why? We have a brand new CV coming on line. Why not name it the America rather than screwing up the LHA naming?

  3. Even that has gotten mucked up when the decision was made in 2008 to name the LHA-6 USS America.

  4.  @kyle857  Not the LHA's. They were always named after US battles from various wars until the America.

  5.  @PaulfromChicago  The USN hasn't had a CVL since WWII. The America is an LHA, not a CVL, and all other LHA's have been named after historical battles.
