I think you meant to say the Firebrand had a tailwheel rather than tricycle landing gear. Blackburn went on to produce an even worse strike fight after the Firebrand, the Firecrest. Test pilots reported the Firecrest made the Firebrand feel downright sprightly. This time, the RN realized Blackburn was never going to produce a decent strike fighter and canceled the Fircrest after two prototypes. Blackburn didn't really hit its stride until the superb Buccaneer flew, just in time for Blackburn to be caught in the "rationalisation" schemes of the government, so the name disappeared in 1963.

This would have worked if the world of fantasy, physics, Japanese industrial capacity, and US bombing would have all changed overnight.

@bkjeong4302 True, but it was inevitable that someone would bring up a space battleship thingy, probably because their waifu doll was mad at them...

@Drachinifel Yes, it was only the introduction of radar fire control that allowed something like a 99% probability of a ship being able to identify the flight of their own shells. However, this still didn't obviate the problem of identifying all the other shell splashes. It was only the perfection of each ship sending analog data packets to all the other ships firing that allowed a high probability identification of every shell splash. Digital data packets, the ultimate perfection of shell splash identification, were introduced at just about the time it no longer mattered, capital ships and their guns having disappeared from the general naval scene.
