@cranki6316 The Air Force has 5,396 aircraft compared to 3,900 for the Navy. The Army is close to the Air Force at 5,117 aircraft, but the Air Force generally maintains a small lead in total numbers but a much larger lead for fixed wing aircraft, with about 80% of US Army aircraft being helicopters.

@ohlawd3699 The Coast Guard operates 210 aircraft so I guess it's like the Army's second cousin.

The Army still has some seagoing vessels left under its command. The largest are the General Frank S. Besson class Logistic Support vessels. They can transport and beach land everything from 82 standard 20 foot equivalent unit containers to 15 Abrams tanks. They are used for fill-in shipping and landing when the Navy's main landings are over, and are able to change loadings with less hassle than a comparable Navy ship. At 273 feet, 4200 tons, and a range of 6500 nmi loaded, they have a true global reach. There are 8 in service and another 8 on order. Just these Army landing and logistics ships have a greater capacity than most of the world's navies.

@bigblue6917 The 1948 Key West Agreement and the Johnson-McConnell agreement of 1966 limited the Army to non-combat and unarmed fixed wing aircraft. The Army started crossing that line with the armed OV-1 Mohawk, and the Air Force and DOD put their foot down on further expansion in that direction. The last OV-1 was retired in 1996 and all the fixed wing aircraft in service now are VIP transports and small transport aircraft designed to move parts and equipment around the various bases worldwide. The vast majority of Army aircraft now are helicopters and UAVs.
