  2. I hate to pile on about this, but it's something we must remember. When we fear the government more they they fear the people, we are already on a nearly irreversible path the tyranny. The last hope a free people have to maintain their freedom is the force of arms, something that's now denied to the long suffering people of Australia. Unfortunately, the Australian people thought they were doing the right thing by making access to arms more difficult for the law abiding, and they are now paying the price. Those wanting to secure their freedom have now become the defacto criminals.

  7.  @PassifloraCerulea  Just because the government "only" stole 20% of the guns, it doesn't mean you have the use of them like you do in the US. From what I've read, even showing a firearm to an intruder is a prison sentence, let alone actually using one.

  8. Local news in the US rarely report misdemeanor crimes. There are just too many (and they aren't that interesting in a news sense) to squeeze into a half hour or hour's worth of news. They report on felony crimes, and generally violent crimes at that. Surely they can't be suggesting the "news" stop reporting the ID of a suspect running around their community shooting people, do they?
