Otherwise known as a "station hack". The Bf.108 were three of hundreds of obsolescent or war weary aircraft that were pressed into the communications and personnel transport. They were also a way for the station commander and command staff to keep up their flying hours, so many missions were flown by high ranking personnel. It must have been quite a shock to the line guys at some distant airbase to see a little plane descend and have a wing commander or even group captain step out of the pilot's seat.
