  1. The Argentine Air Force was the first in South America with jet fighters after buying at least 100 from Britain, starting in 1947. It also had a large force of Lincoln and lancaster strategic bombers and I.Ae. 24 Calquin fighter bombers and English Electric Canberra jest medium bombers, the first jet bomber in South America. The Argentine Air Force was easily the most powerful in South America and one of the largest in the world. The air force never again achieved that strength again, and the Argentine Air Force today is but a shadow of its former self, never having recovered from looses in the Falklands War. It's sole jet combat aircraft are a theoretical 24 A-4 Fightinghawk fighter bombers, with perhaps 4-6 still operational, the rest being in storage. It also has a small force of IA 63 Pampa jet trainers with a secondary combat capability. It no longer includes any supersonic aircraft, pure fighters, or bombers. Even its transport fleet has run down to a force of six C-130, two of which also serve in the aerial tanker role.
