It was only the Australians that really appreciated the capabilities of the F-111, keeping 24 examples flying until 2010 by using the aircraft retired by USAF in 1996 as sources for spares. It's only the introduction of the F-35 into Australian service that will restore just some of the capabilities the RAAF had with the F-111.
