@perperson199 British intelligence wanted to make sure "Schmidt" disappeared under an assumed name to protect his family remaining in Germany from retribution. To this day, no one is sure exactly the real name of the pilot.

British and American airborne radar was more advanced that German technology for the whole period of the war. The Germans never developed an operational series production version of the cavity magnetron centimetric radar used by the Allies. The Germans had to use VHF and UHF frequencies for their radar, resulting in the mass of yagi type of antennas littering the nose of the Ju-88s. The aerodynamics of the plane were so degraded by the need for long range FuG 220 and short range FuG 202 antennas that the top speed was reduced by at least 30 mph, and jamming these lower frequency signals was much easier for the Allies. It wasn't until the development of the FuG 240 Berlin radar near the end of the war, reversed engineered from a crashed British plane, that the Luftwaffe finally had a centimetric radar, but it never went much beyond prototype testing before the war ended. HItler's assumption that airborne radar wouldn't be needed after the early capitulation of Britain caused him to direct resources be put elsewhere. It was a disastrous error for the Luftwaffe.
