  1. Couldn't agree more. I was the search and rescue coordinator for my county's sheriff's department from 1978 to 2005. We had several very high profile child-stranger abduction cases in the early 90's. These got national attention and were the start of every parent thinking there was a perv around every corner ready to grab their child. We never had a true stranger abduction before that two year period in the 90's ad we never had one afterwards. I don't know what was going on in America in that period that caused this spike in child abductions, but it seems as if it had run its course by 1996. We have now terrified generations of children and parents over a risk that's vanishingly small.
