Ah, those swingin' 70's. I remember them well, but not always with much affection. I was the one with question about the currency math. I kind of assumed there must have been some trading and sales of things she bought with her just so she'd have enough money to do the shopping she actually did. That's a good point about her writing this for her 15 year old daughter. She wouldn't want to get into the bleak details of how she got the money she needed. She may also not have wanted to write much about it in case the KGB may have gotten it when she came back to the USSR.
