  1. The best thing we could do in the US is once again outlaw advertising prescription drugs directly to the public. It wasn't legal until 1983, and it provides no benefit to patients but lots of costs, since the patient pays for all those ads. It also leads to prescription shopping, where a patient wants a drug they saw advertised, and they will go to enough doctors until they find one that will prescribe it. The patient also pays a huge cost for promotion prizes and benefits, with prizes like new cars and luxury vacations for doctors who prescribe the most of a certain drug. We need to get back to the days when prescriptions were written for the medical benefit of a patient and nothing else.
