The US economy is the largest based on nominal GDP while China is the largest based on a purchasing power parity GDP. China will probably overtake the US in nominal GDP by 2025. Russia is the 12th largest economy, higher then before 1991. The major problem is Russia is widespread corruption. Russia can't grow a middle class until that problem is solved.

@finol6127 Russia's GDP in 1989 was $506.5 billion. The GDP in 2017 was $1.578 trillion. The GDP was over three times higher in 2017 than in 1989. The GDP per capita was $3428 in 1989. It was $10,349 in 2017. That's a decline from a little over $16,000 in 2013, almost completely due to sanctions on the economy by the EU and US after the invasion and occupation of Crimea. Still, the GDP per capita in 2017 is over three times what it was in 1989. You may feel the economy is worse now than in 1989 but the figures don't agree.

@JohnnyAmerique I understand it just fine and, yes, you communists don't understand basic economics. Things wouldn't have gone so badly in every communist country on earth if you did. Just post your sources instead of being a typical snarky communist.

@ИванШиробоков-в7ы First, the GDP numbers are inflation adjusted. (https://data.worldbank.org/country/russian-federation) Second, a dollar in 1989 is worth $2.04 today. (https://westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi) Third, the highest GDP for Russia was $2,297 trillion in 2013. (https://data.worldbank.org/country/russian-federation) The GDP of the USSR is irrelevant. There is no more USSR. We're comparing apples to apples for what's now the Russian Federation. I know that some of you communists long for the old days of the USSR, and you have no problems just making things up to support your delusion that things were better back then. If you're going to tell me I'm wrong, first understand what I'm comparing things to and then provide me your sources.

@joek600 There's also a difference between how one person feels and how the larger economy is doing. Most adults understand their situation may not be reflective of the entire country.
