  1. There were same kinds of beer kiosks in Slovenia when I first visited in the early 80's. Being an American, it was a weird experience since we had nothing like it. The right to run the kiosks was sold to private individuals. Slovenians were always basically capitalists, so some owners fixed up the area around the kiosk by planting some flowers in containers, adding a few tables and some chairs, and increased revenue by selling thing like hot dogs and potato chips. It was a kind of workingman's sidewalk cafe, and they were always packed on warm summer evenings.
