  1. I'd love to go but since i'd be traveling by myself, $3375 plus a $580 supplement for a single room on a seven day tour is completely out of my price range. Dinner is only included on the first night. Breakfast I'm sure are the typical continental breakfasts included with the hotel charge. There's no mention of the star rating of hotels, just "first class accommodations". That can mean a wide range of things in Europe. Most tours will say something like two or three star hotels so you have a better idea of what to expect. Mycost would be $565 a day not including lunch or dinner. That will easily be another $25 euros per day in any kind of decent neighborhood restaurants, and a lot more in tourist places. I'd have to add air fare from the US to Brussels and then back from Paris. There's an 11 day tour at the end of June covering many of the same points but with two days in Paris and more time at some of the battlefields. It's all inclusive at four star hotels, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks on busses and at meals with a glass of beer or wine at lunch and dinner. The cost is $5,250, or $480 day. The minimum cost for your tour with meals is $507. Even the single room supplement is $52 a day on the 11 day compared to $82 for your tour, and September is the low season in Europe. I'm retired on a mostly fixed income. I'd really like to go, get to meet you, and hear your narration, but the cost is just too high for what's essentially a budget tour.

  2.  @rogerwilco2  I agree. I've looked at several tours of both WWI battlefields and WWII Normandy to the Rhine tours. This tour is in September because it's the low season with rock bottom prices. Everyone else is back from their August holidays and hotels, restaurants, and museums are mostly deserted. For what's really six days with only hotel breakfasts and just one dinner, food and drink will be a not inconsiderable extra expense. As I said in another comment, there's no star rating for the hotels, something you always find with European tours. Just a phrase like "first class accommodations" doesn't mean much. The single supplement is way too high compared to other tours, and that's not affected by the quality of the tour guide. I get the feeling Battlefield Tours set this up because they knew there would be at least 35 Gun Jesus fanboys that would pay what's about a 20% surcharge so you can pal around with him for a couple days.As long as people have the money, and spending that kind of money to be with someone you like is worth it, more power to them and the tour company. I just know I can't spend that kind of money no matter how much I like and respect Ian.

  3. They are only offering to arrange a flight. It's not included in the price. If it's like other tour companies I've dealt with you won't get a cheap fare from them either.

  4.  @clamum  No, everything isn't included. The only meals are hotel breakfasts except for dinner the first night. There's no mention of providing any kind of beverages on the bus, and you will surely need some. I don't know what the plan is for handling lunches. Most tours like this provide some kind of box lunches so people don't get scattered all over looking for restaurants. There's no mention of including them, and certainly not at the price quoted. You'll be too tired to want to look all over an unfamiliar city for a restaurant so you'll end up eating at the hotel restaurant. That can be a pretty price choice and I see nothing about at least providing a fixed price dinner option for tour guests. If you think all you have ot do is pay your airfare and that's it you'd be in for a rude shock.

  6.  @1Notten  It does include lodging but you have to share a room. Unless you have your wife or friend going (and they have to pull the full cost as well), you'll have to bunk in with a stranger or pay the $580 private room cost.

The problem is that many of the people that could afford the tour couldn't tolerate the altitude and many of the people that could tolerate the altitude don't have the kind of money a tour like this would cost. Kind of a Catch-22, and it's one of the reasons Italian WWI tours aren't very popular.

  9.  @Punisher9419  I'm about to be 73 and I can't afford it. I think it's lot more likely to be filled with trust fund students, software millionaires, and 50 year old stockbrokers than old people.
