Even at this late date, most police officers still want a Remington 870, Ithaca 37, or similar pump shotgun. There's a calming effect on suspects when you rack a round in the chamber, and we prefer a shotgun with as few trick parts as possible. Some of the guys would spend hours tricking out their patrol rifle but wouldn't want Franchi shotgun. We wanted a shotgun that looked mean but was as simple as possible to get into action. You'll never be under more stress than having to use a shotgun in combat, and the last thing I would have wanted was two weird safeties and magazine disconnect.
