I have never seen a "reporter" spend so much time crying during her story.

Kris, because she was there to tell a personal story, not dispassionately report on a problem. I don't know her, and she ma be a really good reporter, but this was a story she should have never taken.

Ya Man, yes, indeed, the best reporters of the past (think Walter Cronkite, Edward R Murrow, and many others) were trained in journalism school that their job was to report news, not shape the response to news. They were also trained not to damage their credibility. If they had a personal interest in a story, they should decline the assignment and let another reporter take the story. There was actually a thing called a code of journalistic ethics. I guess that's kinda silly now though. At one time, in a past you're probably too young to remember, there was a difference between news and opinion pieces. That line has now blurred to the point that people like you think a "passionate" reporter with a deep personal interest in a story is really reporting news.
