I grew up dirt poor and spent three years buying my food at Dollar Tree. I, in fact, hated Family Dollar because it was a "fake dollar store" and its items aren't actually that cheap despite being a discount store and having weird off-brand inventory. Its products are maybe 5% less or the same exact price you'd find at a Walmart and they sell things between $5 to $30; and almost none of it is an actual bargain despite being unheard-of brands and stuff made in China. The problem is, where I grew up (Philadelphia), was that all the Walmarts were all in the suburbs, but Family Dollars were everywhere. As much as I disliked being so poor that I had to eat at Dollar Tree, I absolutely hated Family Dollar for being cheap crap that was still overpriced. At least Walmart had name-brand items that were cheap.
