@Furiosa Would you say the same thing in the early 20th century when teliophilic homosexuality was both criminalised and perceived as a mental illness and where people of colour were openly discriminated against as mandated by law? Or the 18th and 19th centuries where human beings were property (chattel and indentured labour slavery)? Or the late 20th century where raping your wife (in Britain) was entirely legal? Are what about your much praised democracy – before female suffrage in the 20th century and universal male suffrage in the 19th? Were these human rights then or did they only become human rights when the West said so? Could the Muslim world have argued that because polygyny wasn't allowed in the USA that therefore it was oppressive and should be sanctioned?

The invasion by William of Orange that ended the Protectorate established by Oliver Cromwell and reestablished a monarchy (the Hanovarians) was an extremely successful invasion. So successful in fact that the British historians even to this day pretend that it didn't happen and was the best thing that ever. Also, the political, economic and ongoing cultural takeover of Britain by the USA also seems to be a pretty successful invasion, albeit by covert and insidious means.

They are made by the USA, guarded by the USA, operated by the USA (from bases that are nominally British but are in fact US‐controlled), depend on US technology, submarines and satellites for their operation. ... And cannot be targeted, much less fired, without the say‐so of the USA. To cut a long story short, Britain's 'independent' nuclear deterrent is nothing of the sort except on paper.

A possible solution to the Cyprus problem is for it to become its own state, much like Luxembourg or Monaco. Unified and independent with equal rights for both Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Multic-confessional like Lebanon with fairness rules regarding the ethnic composition of the government.

The USA deliberately provokes the Russian Federation in the full knowledge of what's likely to happen... and that persuades you that you're being threatened by Russia... so you need to have on your soil the very entity that provoked Russia in the first place...? Sound logic you have there. But remember this: Ukraine being supported by the USA did not deter Russia one bit from fighting to protect its very existence against an enemy vowed to its destruction encroaching on its borders, an enemy that has tried to militarily destroy it twice (once directly in 1917 and the second time by fascist proxy) and very nearly succeeded within living memory (1990's), an enemy with which it's been at war with for the better part of a century. When faced with an existential threat do you think they'll be deterred by the USA? Sweden is not faced by a Russia hell bent on its destruction; Russia, on the other hand, is. The USA is like the cancerous capitalist system it espouses, a country that wants to expand forever, everywhere, without bound and that never stops wanting total global hegemony. Such an insatiable lust for growth, a symptom of the capitalist disease, is fast bringing humankind to the brink of nuclear annihilation.

The EU, like NATO, is a project of the USA and it is becoming clearer by the day. Whether it was set up that way from the very beginning or has since become captured by American interests is irrelevant. What matters is that it now serves the interests of Wall Street, Washington and the Pentagon, plus the private bankers of the Federal Reserve and Bank of International Settlements. A properly functioning government (like that of China) controls its own money with a state-owned central bank that issues its own currency in which it is sovereign. If it overspends then it only has to pay itself back. In contrast the EU (along with the individual countries it comprises) has to borrow money at usurious interest from a consortium of privately owned banks headed by the Rothschild family and run for both profit and political power, one that reduces national sovereignty to near zero. The truth is that Europe is already de facto federalised on the monetary/fiscal level by individual countries not being able to control their own money supply and set interest rates. As someone once said, if you control the money it doesn't matter who's in charge; the one who pays the piper plays the tune.

NATO is the USA. When we talk about the actions of NATO we are really talking about the actions of the USA. NATO wants whatever the USA wants. Ditto the EU. @sashazxtt Isn't autonomy almost the same as separation (secession)? If a central government has virtually no real control over a region then to all practical purposes that region is independent in everything but name. Turning an entire economically important region of Ukraine (the Donbass) into a virtual enclave of another country (Russia) is not something that any country would consider ideal. I suppose the devil is in the details as to how autonomous the region is, but still, making the Donbass a de facto extension of Russia impinges on Ukraine's sovereignty if not its actual territorial integrity.

@foxymetroid It might have started with a readiness exercise and an attempt to pressure the Ukrainians but when that failed, at the last minute, turned into an invasion. Then again, they could have planned it from the beginning.
