Actually, the law is modelled on US legislation. So it seems strange that the United States would be against another country adopting a law that the USA itself uses.

It's only a crime when the USA says it is. And only to the extent that the USA says it is. So say the NATO agents of influence embedded in the national media of each country of the European Union.

I wonder if the Russians are capable of developing jamming and electronic countermeasures technology that can neutralise the USA's nuclear weapons the way - allegedly - they have developed them to the point where they can neutralise warships, aircraft and missiles. If it were possible then not just Russia but the whole world would have a defence against US nuclear blackmail. Indeed, even the very concept of nuclear war could become obsolete.

This US war against Russia is making it increasingly likely that, in cooperation with China, they will very soon create an alternative to the US dollar, British pound and the euro of the EU, a system of currency exchange that they will then use in amongst themselves and the rest of the world (BRICS, ASEAN, SCO, EAEU, etc.). When that happens the currencies of western Europe will not be worth the paper they are printed on, their continued acceptance as currency being at the sole discretion of countries whose industrial economies are backed by productive manufacturing, limitless raw materials, bountiful oil and gas... and good old fashioned gold and silver. The USA, on the other hand, plans to lock Europe into a dollar‐denominated currency area, possibly using digital currency, that will favour itself and subsidise its reindustrialisation while keeping Europe as a captive market, semi‐deindustrialised, largely reliant on the USA for energy and food, and turned into a second world, eastern Europe.

lgcoytv, when I read it I had to do a double-take; I read US as United States and thought, wow, how percipient, this guy really knows who calls the shots. But then I realised that a) the US shadow government is part of the British Establishment and so is not very likely to want to overthrow it; and b) the USA would never support even the lukewarm socialism of the Labour Party. Only when I spotted the incongruity did I realise you meant US as in, we the people.

Apart from window dressing, these laws will simply be used by the USA to clamp down on any domestic or European corporation that doesn’t do exactly what the USA wants them to. For those that do they need not worry, it will be business as usual. These laws will be weaponised as a means of attacking foreign governments or European governments that do business with them, countries that the USA (and its lackey the European Union) don’t like, such as Iran or Cuba. Businesses and corporations that operate in these countries will be accused of money laundering or tax evasion.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men NOT BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. As in, they have no effective choice in choosing political candidates for office, have meaningful influence determining government policies, and no real access to a media or education system that is not biased in favour of or controlled by corporations.

@Orlunu A nuclear war though won't just involve a few nuclear bombs, but dozens, or hundreds, and possibly even thousands exploding in the space of a couple of minutes or hours and spread over large parts of planet Earth. Nuclear tests, don't forget, were tested in such a way that they would do minimum damage to the environment and certainly to civilian infrastructure.

@Obi_boy Are conversely allow genocidal wars of annihilation (Yemen, Israel) be carried out with impunity in the full knowlege that another power with the means through conventional warfare to stop such genocide and ethnic cleansing won't intervene to save humanity because of the global hegemon holding the rest of the world to ransom by the threat of total war.

@Orlunu Have you not heard of the phrase 'nuclear winter' ? The potential effects on the weather/climate. Volcanoes have sometimes been known to have deleterious global effects on the climate, even if it's only for a year or two.

@Orlunu The scenario I had in mind was one of all‐out nuclear war, not one that was limited to the exchange of a few nukes, even though the latter scenario is far more likely. More precisely, I meant we include the arsenals of all the major powers — China, Russia, Britain, France (and possibly Pakistan, India and Israel too).
