Yes, agreed, but let's not forget that the USA was a rising power in world affairs even before the two wars of the twentieth century. The USA would very probably have risen to be a – not the – global hegemon anyway, given time.

The United States do did everything it could to get Japan to attack them, embargoing them and giving help to China. Like Iraq and now Iran, the USA goaded them into war.

The political system gives voters no choice. They can vote – though not necessarily elect, as France and Hungary have shown – different flavours of capitalism from soft (social democracy) through to hard (fascism), anything else leads to civil strife caused by the owners of property private. The capitalist economic system itself is what is failing because of its innate and irremediable flaws and it's a problem that cannot be fixed short of a cultural revolution and radical transformation of society, something that rarely happens.
