  1.  @ScottStruzik  It's probably fully supported by the United States because they can move their own and NATO troops around Europe in relative safety and with speed during a crisis. Ditto for any pan-European army the European Union might create in the future. It's also good for the capitalists and the neo-liberals (private companies and corporations building infrastructure at public expense, globalisation and the free movement of goods and immigrants). And, of course, in so far as any of these networks connect with Africa or Asia, it will allow western armies to move into these places with greater ease as well. But enough of my pessimism and cynicism! It's quite an achievement and a testament to the skill of the engineers that designed and built it.
