  1. The teenager was invented in the 1950’s and came of age in the 1960’s, so this really was a time of transition. Before then, and certainly before the 1940’s, what we refer to as teenagers were more or less just adults and little different from anyone else. Even today in much of the world the teenager barely exists with young people being exposed to life’s hardships from childhood and never going through an artificially prolonged adolescence.
