@mukkaar education would be the death of their culture. Just as 'westernisation' involves the denigration and destruction and reconstruction in the West's image of non-western societies. Just ask the Indians/Native Americans/First Nations people. Westernisation was then and still is now equated with civilisation and it still is considered perfectly normal for westerners to think of themselves as representing the final stage in humanity's evolution. Asia, led by the Chinese, is about to give the West a rude awakening though.

 @gabrielx4639 I didn't know Gypsies/Roma were allowed to date outside their culture. I was always under the impression that they pretty much kept themselves to themselves, like Jews.

@anastasiya256 but eliminating poverty and inequality is what the Americans don't want. They believe in 'meritocracy' where the most successful predators succeed and everyone else can go to hell. This is to them 'fair' and the natural order of things.

@Robespierre-II it's also a way of protecting their culture. See what schooling did to the indigenous peoples of the USA and Canada, Australia and New Zealand. When you compel a gypsy to go to school you're essentially subverting their own culture and replacing it with your own. It's like a form of cultural imperialism.
