  1. Rome was on the up and up in AD 79, the people of Pompeii and Herculaneum were still living in the afterglow of the golden age of Augustus. It's no wonder then they these towns/cities were so prosperous as slaves and loot from conquered territories were flooding in. Despite Caligula and Nero, the Roman empire would continue to prosper until the time of Marcus Aurelias marked the beginning of the Crisis of the Third Century.
