  1.  N Silva  Donald Trump is the Boris Yeltsin of the United States. Or maybe the Mikhail Gorbachev. Either way, just as neither of those were good for Russia, so Donald Trump is proving to be not all that good for the USA.

  2.  @microcontrolledbot  But that's not how it actually works in the real world. It was probably the case in the 17th-19th centuries but today, not so much. If anything the modern application of intellectual property rights actually hinders innovation as it tends to be corporations or private businesses (shareholders) rather than individuals that take out patents and then make it expensive for others to use or develop new technology as the patent holders try to recoup their costs and also make a profit. The pharmaceutical industry is a classic example, using IP to effectively block the introduction or use of new cheap, generic drugs. Another area of misuse is in the music industry. For example, somone like Michael Jackson or Elton John make millions and their record companies make millions more, but bootlegging their songs isn't going to bankrupt or impoverish these artists one bit, nor culturally impoversh the world. Rather, by extending the copyright to absurd lengths of time (lifetime + 70 years) they are really benefitting the music corporations and family members/artists estate that made absolutely no contribution to the original work of art and are just using it as unearned increment (rent seeking).

  5. A generalised decrease in the value of crypto doesn't mean a crash necessarily. Crypto is still legal in most of the rest of the world and thus can still be used as an investment of sorts and for speculation (gambling by any other name). Just remember though that for the most part crypto currencies are notional, their value existing in the virtual world of the internet.

  6.  @microcontrolledbot  I don't understand this obsession with stealing technology. Instead of seeing ideas and technology as being stolen, why don't you see it as being shared. Surely sharing things with your fellow humans is better than hoarding and monopolising them (and aren't monopolies generally considered bad, even by capitalists?). I also find it strange that you behave as if Chinese 'theft' of American technology (in fact a product created solely for profit and the benefit of some fascist multinational corporation run by a corrupt elite that has no loyalty to the nation state, nor any particular concern for your wellbeing and that, by the logic inherent in the capitalist mode of production, always underpays - hence steals from - its employees) that they're stealing from you personally. I'm amazed how your emotional attachment to the concepts of private property, property rights, and ownership of both material and immaterial things extends to you feeling vicariously threatened/indignant when the Chinese undercut the profits, not of you personally, but of an elite property owning class whose actions, at the very best, will only benefit you yourself incidentally and marginally.

The Chinese might overcome this problem by cloning themselves en masse or by the artificial insemination of artificial/animal wombs, thereby obviating the need to reproduce by the usual means and in so doing overcome any population bottlenecks and speeding up population growth rates considerably.
