I bet you've just made that up. I'm pretty sure that's what they call an urban legend. Buried 6 feet underground in a coffin/casket (possibly even lead lined), inside a vault - the typical way I'm given to understand most Americans are buried - I'm pretty sure that even after a century anything radioactive would still remain safely underground. Besides, I would have thought that rain water percolates downwards through soil rather than upwards, keeping contaminants in the ground unless groundwater makes it to a water source such as stream or well.

@cruellworrld It was made illegal because certain businessmen in the USA wanted it that way. You see, being a natural product cannabis couldn't be patented and as it was a widespread and easily available form of effective and safe pain relief it competed against the far more dangerous synthetic forms of pain relief then being marketed by the pharmaceutical industry. As its fibres could also be used to make a strong and durable textile it also competed with the cotton and wool industries. Most of all though, it competed with tobacco as a favourite narcotic. So for all of these reasons various corporate interests lobbied to get it banned. Now, however, certain states in the USA want it legalised so they can increase their tax revenue from its sale and so the government (read big corp, big pharma and big agro) can have control, just like they have already with tobacco, alcohol and grain. It will be corporations and the US government that have the most to gain by its re-legalisation rather than the lone hippy growing weed in his garden.
